Gonzaga College Crowned Generation €uro National Winners 2017/2018

Gonzaga College, Dublin were crowned National Winners in the Generation €uro 2017/2018 schools competition final held in our Dockland Campus in Dublin on 9 March 2018.

Gonzaga edged out St. Andrew’s College, Dublin and Coláiste Muire, Co. Clare in an impressive and high quality final. As part of the final round challenge, the teams presented their assessment of the economic outlook for the euro area to a panel of experts.

Each team’s presentation was based on their own independent research after which they took a series of testing questions from the judging panel. After lengthy deliberation by the judges, Gonzaga College were crowned champions with St. Andrew’s and Coláiste Muire, coming joint runners up.

Gonzaga’s success was a culmination of hard work and dedication after coming through three separate rounds of economic challenges. Speaking on Gonzaga’s triumph Mark Cassidy, Director of Economics and Statistics and chair of the judging panel said: “The standard of presentations was extremely high and all the teams impressed the judges with their knowledge and teamwork. Gonzaga demonstrated a deep understanding of current economic conditions as well as extensive knowledge of monetary policy and the inflation outlook for the euro zone.”

Along with taking the coveted national title Gonzaga won a trip to the ECB in Frankfurt where they will meet ECB President Mario Draghi and take part in a series of events with the other national champions from the euro area.
